Dom Pierre Perignon
In 1668, Dom Pierre Pérignon, a Benedictine monk, was appointed procurator at the Abbey of St. Peter Hautvillers. He used his skills as builder, lawyer, administrator, and negociator to procure the best plots of vines with the goal of creating "the best wine in the world."

Founded in 650, the Abbey of St. Peter Hautvillers is located in the Marne Valley in Champagne, France. Dom Pierre Pérignon was appointed procurator in 1668 at this deeply spiritual place, which is regarded as the original birthplace of "Champagne."
